This LEED-Silver certified 165,000 SF multi-sport indoor practice facility is a significant contribution to the UConn campus. The Burton Football Complex and Mark B. Shenkman Training Center serves a major role as a recruiting tool for student-athletes, and also a marketing role as an “icon” for the University’s ambitious Division 1A football program. Conceived as a world-class facility, the project presents a unique image within the campus context, while meeting the very specific technical requirements of an athletics training center. Key program elements include an indoor 100-yard football practice field, strength and conditioning facilities, locker facilities for athletes and coaches, meeting rooms, a sports medicine facility and clinic, an academic resources area, classrooms and meeting rooms, and a Hall of Fame.
JCJ was the prime architect; Populous was the sports architect.
